eBusiness
(electronic business) is, in its most basic form, the
conduct of business using the Internet. It is a more
generic term than eCommerce because it refers to not
only buying and selling but also servicing customers
and collaborating with business partners and transmission
of information. eBusiness is the complex fusion of business
processes, enterprise applications, and organizational
structure necessary to create a high-performance organization.
But these days
Electronic Business (eBusiness) carries a broader definition,
not just the buying and selling of goods and services
with the help of the Internet, but servicing customers,
students, patients, members, or anyone associated with
or benefiting from the organization through connectivity
and automation. eBusiness includes all of the applications
and processes enabling a company to service a business
transaction.
In addition, eBusiness
includes both front and back office applications that
form the core engine for modern business as well as
applications that link trading partners throughout the
supply chain. It's about collaborating with coworkers
or business partners, and conducting electronic transactions
within ANY organization, business, or workplace.
Today there are
many forms which an eBusiness takes. eBusiness applications
include those using information technology to increase
sales of products and services; to improve efficiencies
and reduce costs; and to enable a company to service
its customers and work closely with its vendors and
suppliers. It’s about creating new services and
streamlining business processes by leveraging the company's
computing infrastructure and Internet connectivity.
eBusiness can
work for ANY business because it involves the entire
business cycle from production, procurement, distribution,
sales, payment, fulfillment, restocking and marketing.
It's about relationships with customers, employees,
suppliers and distributors. It involves support services
like banks, lawyers, accountants and government agencies.
Schools, hospitals, municipalities, and service organizations
can benefit from adopting eBusiness.
It’s the
combination of efficient business processes, reliable
information technology, and organizational structure
(enabled people) necessary to create a competitive high-performing
organization, business, or workplace.
